My friend Jennifer, from Crochet by Jennifer, has recently released a follow-up book to her first book Crochet Style, and it has me swooning. Baby & Kids Crochet Style features all that same texture and classic design that I love about Jennifer’s work, now in a book for babies, kids, and kids at heart. When it arrived in my mailbox, I skimmed through the pages amazed at the beautiful designs and I have to admit, I almost wanted to have another baby! Alas, four is enough for me and I decided to focus on my friends. Which one could be ready to have a baby? Magically three of them announced pregnancies last week and I couldn’t be more thrilled, since now I have so many gorgeous baby shower patterns to crochet for them

Inside Baby & Kids Crochet Style, there are 30 patterns of heirloom keepsakes, adorable accessories, and beautiful newborn photo props. I wanted to make everything inside. I settled on a cowl for my daughter, but now that I know some babies are on the way, I definitely have to make the Snow Flurry Baby Blanket which looks as soft and cozy as a cloud. It also has a matching bonnet to complete a perfect set. There are some must-make lovies for the kids, fun, playful bonnets, and precious baby cocoons.

Let’s take a moment to mention Jennifer’s photographer, April, from Appletree Photography. She has really outdone herself with each of the photos in this book. The newborn photography is amazing and every one of these little babies looks angelic.

Are you feeling left out because you wanted to make something for yourself or an older child? Don’t worry, section 3 of the book is full of cold weather accessories sized from baby to adult! Some of the designs even match the baby items perfectly! There are some lovely beanies and accessories for girls and I absolutely love that some of the hats are unisex. Finding a hat that my husband and three boys will wear is tricky business, but they will be getting a Thunderstruck Beanie, a Making Waves Beanie, a Winter Frost Chunky Beanie, and the Chinook Braided Cable Beanie! I made my little girl the Winter Frost Cowl and she’ll get the matching hat soon too. This last section is also full of gorgeous models, and members of Jenn’s family!

Jennifer Dougherty is renowned for her crochet designs’ stunning textures, easy-to-follow instructions and stitch techniques that take your accessories from plain to extraordinary.

I have seen first hand, the extensive testing process through which Jennifer puts her patterns. She tests them rigorously for errors, typos, and for fit before publication so you know that a pattern with her name on it is practically perfect in every way. You can feel confident that your projects will fit properly (always remember to check your gauge!) and you won’t encounter any errors.

The patterns included in this book mostly use worsted weight and bulky weight yarns. Each pattern begins with a comprehensive “about” page which includes all the pertinent information needed to successfully complete the project. Stitch abbreviations are listed and a color-coded sizing chart with finished measurements is included. You’ll see notes, special techniques, and gauge checkpoints throughout the pattern. I really can’t say enough good things about this book. You’ll just have to see it for yourself!
