A sneak peek at 5 of the patterns inside our Winter Wonderland issue!
1. The Brighton Alpine Ski Hat by Cyprianne Nolan
This hat is bound to be a crowd-pleaser! Made with a #6 bulky yarn, it works up quickly so you can make yourself one and still have time to whip up a few for everyone who is jealous of yours!
The pattern is rated “easy” and having made one myself last week, I can confirm it is quick, easy, and uses basic beginner stitches. You’re going to love the process AND the finished product! It's a great winter topper!
2. The Winter Wreath by Samantha Byron
It’s fun, it’s easy, it’s economical — in fact, you probably have enough worsted weight yarn in your stash to create this festive project.
Though there are a lot of pieces, each one is simple to make even for new crocheters! Grab some extra supplies because I have a feeling you’ll be wanting to make more than one of these.
3. The White Rain Scarf by Mary Palmentieri
The magic of this scarf comes from holding two different textures of yarn together while crafting. Because of this, you’ll need an extra big hook, size N or P.
The scarf is made using basic stitches and is easy … but if you’re a beginner, be sure and count your stitches. Actually, everyone should count, but when you’re still learning, these textured yarns can make it difficult to see your stitches. So, it’s really important to count.
This is another fast and fun design, perfect for lazy-day crochet and last-minute gifts!
4. Percy the Penguin by Beardie and Blondie
At Happily Hooked we absolutely LOVE Beardie and Blondie designs! This couple is known for their adorable amigurumi patterns. Percy is the latest in a long line of cute animal designs that are loaded with personality.
Percy is made with #3 weight yarn and, like most amigurumi, almost exclusively using the sc stitch (single crochet). Though this is a basic stitch even beginners know, it’s very important to have consistent tension … therefore, this design is rated intermediate.
5. Samma’s Blanket by Agat Rottman
Here’s that perfect, long winter’s night project. If you’re looking for something cozy and addictively repetitive that results in a beautiful finished product, this design has it all.
You can make it using one strand of worsted weight, or two strands of baby yarn held together. And you can easily add on more rounds to make a bigger blanket if you choose to.
The tight weave makes this blanket not only beautiful but practical as well — and who doesn’t love making things that people will actually use?

I'm Abby — mom of three, lifelong crocheter, voracious reader, and aspiring novelist. At some point, I was supposed to grow up ... but so far I still spend most of my time playing with books, paper, and yarn. In my mind, I live a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. My crochet speed is 1 beanie per 2 episodes of The Mandalorian. I'm beyond grateful to work with the team at Happily Hooked, and I'm excited to see where this journey takes me!
