Happy New Year to one and all crocheters, from Happily Hooked!! To start your new year right, we have 30 super fun crafty-related things to suggest during our 30 Days — January 2021 Edition!
The year that was 2020 had its ups and downs, good and bad, sane and crazy. Well, mostly just crazy, to be honest. One thing after another happened that I never could have imagined, and like many of you, I feel as though I've been through the wringer. So, I am GRATEFUL! And although some say that New Year's is just another day, it is a WONDERFUL way to give ourselves permission to start over and put the past behind us. Clean slate.

I joke with my family and friends, “New year, same me!” But I really do have a new attitude every new year.
So, join me, won't you? For..Happily Hooked’s 30 Days!

A Few of Our Favorite 30 Days Challenges
Happy Mew Year for Cats Day!
January 2nd celebrates Happy Mew Year for Cats Day! If you're a cat lover, you probably think this is adorable! I am and I do. I love animals in general and wish a Happy New Year to all creatures, great and small! This year, Sam asked us to pay tribute by showing a selfie of our kitties! Me-WOW!
National Hat Day!
January 15th is National Hat Day! From hats to cats, there's almost nothing we can't do! It feels like the last hat I made becomes my favorite hat. Recently, I experimented with slip-stitches for a hat pattern from a recent issue. (The Kimberly Beanie from the November 2020 issue #80, to be exact.) I used hand-dyed yarn from an indie yarn shop and am just in love with my hat.
2021 NEW YEAR’S ADVICE FROM ME
So, after crafting for over *cough* 40 years, I learned a few things. But my most important piece of advice is, TRY NEW STUFF.
- Try new stitches. And practice them until they feel comfortable and fun.
Yeah, I knew how to do slip stitches, but I've never worked up a whole hat with them. It's amazing what you learn and what you accomplish. I feel like I have a whole new skill set! - Try new yarn. Like, really cool, special indie-dyed yarn.
Treat yourself to just 2 skeins. Less than $40. I get to do that now because writing about crochet stuff is my job. But knowing what I know, I would do it once in a while even if I didn't have this job. It's SUCH a mental and emotional boost to treat yourself to something that only YOU get to use. - Try new vendors. Buy from small shops.
Independent yarn dyers. Etsy people who make their own stitch markers or custom hooks. People who design their own patterns. Just get online and browse every now and again until you see something that strikes your fancy. Maybe it's a cute project bag with a funny cartoon on it. Or a fancy pair of scissors that you're not going to share with your kids (finally). Who knows? You deserve it!
There is a giant world of stuff that I didn't even know about! And I learned it all after coming to work at Happily Hooked. And I found a fantastic group of people to share it all with who are sweet and supportive, but never pushy or competitive. It's amazing. My life has changed for the better. After 40 years. (And it wasn't even bad, to begin with! LOL!)
