Perfect Hats And The Charities That Want Them!

Hats are quick and simple to make when trying to fit some hooking time into our crazy busy schedules, and the July Pattern Pack Pro is all about Hats!

The best part about making hats is they are perfect for sharing! Everyone needs a hat for something! To stay warm, to keep the sun out of your eyes, to make a fashion statement or just because we like to wear them. We encourage you to share with family, share with friends and share with those who may need a helping hand.

If you look around your community, big or small, there is a need for your help. I’m sure you would find that there are many needs right in your own backyard! Try asking your local hospitals or homeless shelters for starters. And please always ask about or read the guidelines to make sure you are giving them exactly what they need. If you’re not sure where to start here are just a few places looking for handmade items to distribute to those in need.

Hat Box Foundation

The non-profit Hat Box Foundation’s mission is to distribute hand-made (either knit or crochet) hats to cancer patients across the country who are undergoing chemo treatments. We believe something made from the heart helps heal the human spirit. However, we can not do it without the help of our fellow crocheters and knitters.

Operation Gratitude

Operation Gratitude sends care packages filled with snacks, entertainment, hygiene and hand-made items, plus personal letters of appreciation, to New Recruits, Veterans, First Responders, Wounded Warriors, Care Givers and to individually named U.S. Service Members deployed overseas. Our mission is to lift the spirits and meet the evolving needs of our Active Duty and Veteran communities, and provide volunteer opportunities for all Americans to express their appreciation to members of our Military.

Crochet for Cancer

Crochet for Cancer is a Christian volunteer based non-profit that donates handmade chemo caps to cancer centers for patients coping with hair loss.

Knots of Love

Knots of Love’s mission is to warm the hearts and heads of those experiencing traumatic hair loss, no matter the cause. We are a dedicated group throughout the United States who knit and crochet caps with love. This act of kindness fills a need which is often overlooked. Our creations are distributed free of charge – one cap at a time.

Help for the Homeless

There really isn’t a national organization for the homeless, just many local charities. I found this directory that should help direct you to something more local if you wish to help one of these shelters or organizations.

Please share pictures of your hats from this issue in our Editor’s Challenge group on Facebook and let us know if you are sharing with friends and family or donating them to a charity!
